Mahogany & Stone
"Mahogany, I'm tired."
"Just keep going."
"...Mahogany, I'm bored."
"We'll be there soon."
"Where are we going?"
The whine in Stone's voice was getting to be to much for the normally patient brother. The white wolf had been complaining for a while now and Mahogany had to struggle not to lose his temper with his brother. "You'll see when we get there," he said, trying hard to keep the irritation out of his voice.
Truth was, Mahogany had no idea where he was leading him, he just knew they had to leave. The pack they'd been staying with before was growing tired of Stone's stupidity and the white and black wolf had overheard some of the higher ups discussing a plan to 'kill the stupid one while his brother wasn't there to protect him'. That was all Mahogany needed for a reason to flee. The only trouble was now they were lost. Oh well, better be lost then with their old pack.

Stone's paws were aching and he was bored with just walking. He wanted to go home. He didn't know where Mahogany was trying to lead them, all he knew is that he wanted to go home to his pack where he could rest and be fed. He had no way of knowing what Mahogany knew about what his so called ‘friends’ wanted to do to him. They came to a shallow stream with a grand stone bridge stretching over it. The bridge seemed oversized compared to the small body of water.
The white male shoved ahead of his smaller brother to sniff at the edge of the bridge. His tail wagged slightly as he looked up to try and see what was on the other side of the bridge. Something was blocking his view, but he didn’t get a chance to think of what it was before Mahogany started pacing behind him.
”Stone, be careful. I don’t think we should go across that bridge,” Mahogany said, uncertainty lacing his voice. Something didn’t feel…normal about this bridge, but the smaller male couldn’t quite put his paw on it. His thoughts were interrupted by a sudden eruption of howls around them. Mahogany’s blood turned to ice as he whipped around, his eyes stretched wide in fear.
Stone spun around as well, but instead of looking afraid, a dopy smile crossed his face. ”Brother! Our pack has come to take us home!” he crowed, his tail wagging.
Mahogany turned back towards Stone and shoved his brother back towards the bridge with his muzzle. ”Time to go,” he growled, shoving him again when he didn’t start on his own.
”Mahogany, why? They are our pack, why are we running from them?” Stone whimpered. His brother’s reaction to the arrival of his pack was frightening him. It didn’t help that the wolves that were closing in on them were howling and growling like they were on the hunt.
”Stone, go!” Mahogany snarled. Finally, his brother’s paws finally started to work and he began running across the bridge with his brother right behind him. They ran right passed the fog shrouding the bridge and didn’t stop until they were on the other side. Mahogany stopped, tilting his head and turning his ears to try and catch any sound that might suggest they were being followed, but all was silent.
Stone looked around curiously. ”Where are we?” he asked. Mahogany turned back when he was satisfied that their pack wasn’t following them. He shrugged. ”I’m not sure,” he said. The brother’s exchanged a glance before Mahogany took the lead again. Maybe they’d find a home with more tolerant wolves here.
